Senate Confirms Cooper Nominee to Lead Dept. of Information Technology
Approval marks 15th Senate confirmation of Gov. Cooper’s cabinet nominees
Another nominee, Pamela Cashwell, advanced through the State and Local Government Committee this afternoon
Raleigh, N.C. — The North Carolina Senate today approved Gov. Roy Cooper’s nomination to lead the Department of Information Technology.
Jim Weaver appeared before the Senate State and Local Government Committee to answer questions about his qualifications and vision for the department. Weaver served in a similar role in Pennsylvania. The Senate confirmed the nomination by a vote of 43–1.
Weaver is the 15th Cooper nominee confirmed by the Senate. In addition, the Senate chose not to require reconfirmations of four holdover cabinet secretaries from Cooper’s first term.
In the past five years, none of Cooper’s cabinet nominees have been rejected by the Senate.
Pamela Cashwell, Gov. Cooper’s nominee to lead the Department of Administration, appeared before the Senate State and Local Government Committee this afternoon, which voted to advance her nomination. Cashwell, a former prosecutor, previously served as a senior aide at the N.C. Department of Public Safety.
Sen. Ted Alexander (R-Cleveland) said, “Mr. Weaver and Ms. Cashwell are both qualified nominees who demonstrated their ability to competently lead their respective departments.”
