Raleigh, N.C. — Senator Harry Brown (R-Onslow) issued the following statement in response to Governor Cooper’s renewed push to take on debt to finance new school construction.

“A bipartisan supermajority passed a budget to spend $4.4 billion in cash to build new schools over the next 10 years. A debt-financed bond would waste $1 billion in unnecessary interest payments, starving other parts of the budget that could use that money.

“Why in the world would we max out the credit card when we can just use cash to build new schools instead? It doesn’t make a lick of sense.”
