Sen. Berger’s Chief of Staff to Become General Counsel for UNC System
Raleigh, N.C. — Senate Leader Phil Berger’s (R-Rockingham) chief of staff, Andrew Tripp, will become General Counsel and Senior Vice President for Legal, Risk, and Compliance at the UNC System.
Tripp served as the lawyer for former Senate Rules Chairman Tom Apodaca from 2011 to 2015. He then served as Sen. Berger’s general counsel from 2015 to 2018 before becoming chief of staff.
Sen. Berger said, “Andrew succeeded in the way every legislator and staff member who respects the General Assembly hopes to: He’s leaving the institution better than he found it. He’s an honest broker, a straight shooter, and a great lawyer who is committed to the rule of law and the people who serve here. The UNC System’s legal team is in sure, capable hands and I wish Andrew, his wife, and their three children well in this next chapter.”
Senate Minority Leader Dan Blue (D-Wake) said, “Andrew’s respect for the people who serve and work here is apparent to anybody who knows him. He treats everybody with respect and honesty, regardless of their political party. I expect he’ll bring that same spirit to the UNC System.”
Sen. Berger will announce a new chief of staff in the coming days.
