Sen. Berger Announces New GovOps Director
Raleigh, N.C. — Today, Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) announced the hiring of Clark J. Chapin as the new director of the Senate majority staff of the Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations.
Chapin most recently served as one of two Auditors of Public Accounts, a position that is appointed by the Connecticut General Assembly. Before then he served as the Director of Planning and Community Development for the town of East Windsor, Conn., the State Executive Director for the USDA Farm Service Agency, and project director for the Working Lands Alliance/American Farmland Trust.
“Clark brings a unique mix of experience at all levels of government,” Sen. Berger said. “He has a proven track record of holding government programs and agencies accountable and rooting out waste. I look forward to seeing his impact on GovOps as it continues to look into critical issues like hurricane recovery efforts.”
Chapin previously served in the Connecticut legislature where he was a member of the Appropriations Committee and was the Senate chairman of the Regulation Review Committee.
“The oversight GovOps provides is key in ensuring taxpayer funds are being spent wisely and that state government is running efficiently,” Chapin said. “It’s an honor to join this well-established team and I’m excited to get to work on behalf of the people of North Carolina.”
Chapin’s first day was Monday, Feb. 5.
