Sen. Berger and Rep. Pyrtle Secure Nearly $100 Million for Rockingham County in State Budget

Raleigh, N.C. — The state budget passed by the General Assembly recently includes nearly $100 million in funding for Rockingham County. That includes funding for water and wastewater projects, needs for fire departments, local nonprofits, and projects in communities across the county.

“Over the last decade, the Republican-led General Assembly has been good stewards of your tax dollars. We’ve kept spending in check and cut taxes so you can keep more of your hard-earned money,” Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) said. “That fiscal responsibility provides unique opportunities to support communities across North Carolina. The funds Rep. Pyrtle and I secured will go far in helping address the pressing infrastructure needs across Rockingham County and local priorities.”

Rep. Reece Pyrtle (R-Rockingham) said, “There is a lot to celebrate in this budget, particularly when it comes to Rockingham County. There are millions of dollars included in the budget that address our immediate needs including equipment for our first responders, public amenities, and infrastructure. I’m thankful that we were able to come together to pass a budget that supports rural North Carolina.”

Appropriations for Rockingham County include:

• $5.16 million for the Rockingham County Airport Authority
• $250,000 for the Boys’ and Girls’ Club of Eden, Inc.
• $1 million for the City of Eden’s Freedom Park
• $300,000 for recreation projects in the City of Reidsville
• $40,000 for the Dan River Basin Association for improvements to the Chinqua-Penn Walking Trail
• $250,000 for the Free Clinic of Rockingham County, Inc. to support the Reidsville Free Clinic
• $400,000 for the Town of Madison to support the Madison Mayodan Recreation Commission
• $50,000 for the Eden Rescue Squad, Incorporated
• $50,000 for the Madison-Rockingham Rescue Squad, Incorporated
• $50,000 for the Reidsville Rescue Squad, Inc.
• $500,000 to support fire departments in Rockingham County
• $730,000 for the Rockingham County Historical Society Museum and Archives
• $350,000 for the Town of Mayodan for capital improvements and equipment at local parks, including Farris Memorial Park
• $175,000 for the Town of Stokesdale to purchase soccer field lighting and a utility vehicle
• $500,000 for the Town of Wentworth
• $2.8 million for the United Way of Rockingham County for directed grants
• $850,000 for the Town of Madison for a stormwater remediation project
• $7 million for the City of Eden for EPA mitigation
• $1.6 million for the City of Reidsville for a wastewater capital project
• $10 million for Rockingham County for water and sewer infrastructure around U.S. 220
• $21 million for Rockingham County for the extension of water services from Reidsville toward the unincorporated community of Ruffin
• $23.5 million for water and sewer infrastructure in Rockingham County
• $4.5 million for the Town of Madison to address water main issues
• $4 million for the Town of Mayodan for a wastewater treatment plant
• $2.7 million for the Town of Stoneville for water system improvements
• $2 million for the Town of Stoneville for water and wastewater lines along Highway 770 toward US Highway 220
• Nearly $4.2 million recurring for operating funds for the Rockingham Youth Development Center
• Start-up and recurring funds necessary for an additional magistrate in Rockingham County

The state budget passed the General Assembly on Sept. 22 and was sent to Gov. Cooper, who has announced he will let it become law without his signature.
