Good News: Salon Owners Step Up to Help During COVID-19 Crisis
Donations from across the state have brought in thousands of additional PPE
Raleigh, N.C. — Salons across North Carolina sprung into action to support the state’s medical and emergency personnel while their businesses were closed due to COVID-19. Tuyet “Lynn” Nguyen, the owner of Professionails in Triangle Town Center, graciously donated 25,000 gloves to be distributed across the state.
“I always love to donate something for the community in this kind of situation,” Nguyen said. Usually, she said she works long hours and doesn’t get to see her kids. So, she’s spent a lot of time at home since her salon had to close down.
“I enjoy the time being home with my kids,” she said.
Initially, she wasn’t prepared for the crisis, but she was able to order extra supplies to donate. Her donation was part of a drive set up by the North Carolina Senate President Pro Tempore’s Office with the N.C. Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners. She was able to donate masks directly to Rex Hospital, as well as provide some to her friends to donate.
In Mooresville, two salons have also stepped up the plate to help during this crisis. Mya Tu, of All About You Nails and Spas, donated face masks. Andy Tran, of Nails of America, donated face masks, rubbing alcohol, and gloves.
The drive has brought in more than 53,000 gloves, 4,100 masks and other personal protection equipment like gowns, shoe covers, face shields, and disinfectant. State senators across North Carolina have been picking up the supplies from their local salons to bring to our front-line healthcare workers during the COVID-19 crisis.
