Raleigh, N.C. — Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) and House Speaker Tim Moore (R-Cleveland) released the following statement about Gov. Cooper signing the revised state budget into law:

“The General Assembly passed the 2022 budget with strong bipartisan support, and we are pleased Gov. Cooper signed this responsible spending plan into law. Moving forward, we are committed to working together to improve healthcare access and expand Medicaid, while providing the necessary safeguards to preserve the state’s fiscal strength. Raleigh, N.C. — Today the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 8–1 that legislative leaders can intervene in litigation to defend the state’s voter ID law.

Senate Leader Phil Berger (R-Rockingham) released the following statement regarding the ruling: “North Carolinians deserve to have their laws vigorously defended in court. Gov. Cooper and Attorney General Stein’s opposition to voter ID has resulted in them intentionally sandbagging the defense of a law the majority of North Carolinians support. Today the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that. I’m thankful for today’s ruling and look forward to fighting to implement our state’s voter ID law.”
